Created during the final chapter of a close family member's life, this body of work reflects on the shifting nature of memory, grief and love.

Through colour, balance, proportion and gesture, Hyett explores the ways in which we hold on to those we fear losing. Beginning with forms that suggest flowers and living matter, the paintings gradually dissolve into fields of colour and atmosphere, mirroring the way memories soften, fragment and evolve over time.

Some memories remain vivid and immediate; others emerge unexpectedly through fleeting sensations, conversations or moments once overlooked. Rather than documenting absence, these works honour presence, connection and the enduring traces we leave within one another.

The Shape of a Memory is ultimately a meditation on remembrance, transformation and the quiet beauty of a life that continues to resonate long after the moment has passed.
