This June, Hyett & The Captain will open the doors of John's Barn one final time before closing for winter.
On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June, visitors are invited to experience Baroque: Doing It My Way by Colin Hyett, alongside a selection of newly arrived works that will be installed throughout the barn especially for the weekend. Over recent months, we have been quietly sourcing pieces to complement the exhibition's final presentation, creating a fresh dialogue between art, objects and place.
There is a particular atmosphere to the barn in late June. The light arrives lower and softer, the paddocks grow quiet, and the space settles into the season. It is our favourite time to walk slowly through the work and to reflect on the conversations and encounters that have shaped the exhibition over the past months.
After this weekend, Hyett & The Captain will pause for winter. The gallery will rest, but the work continues. The colder months are often the most productive: studio visits, ongoing conversations, new discoveries and the gradual shaping of future exhibitions.
For now, there is one more weekend.
An opportunity to spend an unhurried hour or two with Colin's richly layered world of ornament, humour and theatricality, to encounter new arrivals throughout the barn, and to mark the close of the season before we return in spring.
