Over the weekend, Hyett & The Captain opened the doors of John’s Barn in Balnarring for a public viewing of Baroque: Doing It My Way by Colin Hyett.
Set within the scale and character of the historic barn, the exhibition brought together painting, sculpture, furniture and collected objects in a richly layered presentation exploring ornament, humour and theatricality.
It was a beautiful autumn weekend, with sunlight moving through the space across both days. Friends, neighbours, collectors and new visitors travelled from across the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne to spend time with the exhibition and the landscape surrounding it.
Guests moved through the rooms at their own pace, returning to favourite works, pausing in conversation, and sharing in the relaxed atmosphere that has become central to Hyett & The Captain.
Leigh was there throughout the weekend with Sailor by her side, welcoming visitors with the warmth and generosity that sit at the heart of the project.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the weekend feel so special.
The gallery remains open by appointment, and the exhibition booklet is now available to view online.
